Zwei Felder aus Lichtpunkten schweben scheinbar schwerelos im Schiff der evangelischen Kirche in Melsungen. Tatsächlich hängen die insgesamt 60 Lichtkugeln an feinen, kaum sichtbaren Litzen, die an einer Trägerstruktur aus Platinenmaterial befestigt sind. Diese weiß- silberne 1,5 mm flache Struktur, die sich zusammensetzt aus schlanken Verbindern und achteckigen Knotenpunkten, ist die stromleitende Ebene des modularen LED-Lichtsystem *Track. Die kleinen Kugeln mit einem Ø von 28 mm spenden das Licht. Sie bestehen aus einer LED (mit Licht bündelnder Linse und transluzenter Kunststoffabdeckung) und einem Kühlkörper in farblos eloxiertem Aluminium. Ben Wirth von benwirth licht www.benwirth.de hat *Track entworfen, Wolfgang Engelhardt von Licht - und Objektberatung www.lichtundobjektberatung.de hatte die Vision, dieses flexible Stecksystem für das Kirchenprojekt einzusetzen, der Vorstand der evangelischen Gemeinde in Melsungen war mutig genug, dieses innovative und moderne Konzept in Auftrag zu geben.

 

Bei *Track können die einzelnen Komponenten so zusammengesteckt werden, daß auf verschiedene Raumsituationen eingegangen werden kann. Auch Lichtstimmung bzw. -menge laßen sich nach Bedarf gestalten, je nach dem wie viele Kugeln gehängt werden oder ob man das Licht der Kugel nach oben oder nach unten richtet. Die einzelne Kugel besitzt eine Lichtleistung von ca. 80 lm bei nur 1,6 W Stromverbrauch. Die in Melsungen gehängte Struktur hat bei circa 100 Watt eine Lichtleistung von circa 4800 Lumen. 90 % der Kugeln richten ihr Licht nach unten und beleuchten den bestuhlten Bereich der Kirche. Wenige Kugeln wurden als Uplights zur Inszenierung eingesetzt, so daß die Trägerstruktur fragmentarisch als Licht-Schattenspiel vergrößert an der Decke erscheint.

 

In der Kirche in Melsungen hängen zwei *Track Felder à 30 Kugeln mit einem Außenmaß von circa 2,20 m x 2,80 m. Die Kugeln wurden mit einem Abstand von circa 2 m zur Trägerstruktur auf eine Ebene positioniert. Die Kunststoffabdeckungen der Kugeln leuchten teils farblos, teils farbig in blau und rot. Das ausgesendete Licht ist farbneutral. Damit unterschiedliche Lichtstimmungen kreiert werden können, laßen sich beide Felder jeweils in zwei Stufen schalten (äußerer Ring und inneres Feld).

 

Diese Installation wurde am 12.10.2012 fertiggestellt. Ein erstes Statement des dort predigenden Pfarrers, Herrn Bielefeld: "Diese Installation ist nicht nur wunderschön, sie wird mich in Zukunft inspirieren und ich werde sie in meine Predigen einflechten."

Two arrays of multiple points of light seem to be weightlessly hovering under the ceiling of the nave of Melsungen's evangelical church. In fact, the 60 light globes are suspended on fine, barely visible litz wires, which are connected to a carrier structure made from circuit board material. This white and silver structure, merely 1.5 mm thin and made up of slim connectors and octagonal nodes, is the modular lighting system *Track's conducting board. The little globes (Ø 28 mm) give off the light. They consist of an LED (with a focussing lens and a translucent plastic cover) and a heat sink (colorless anodized aluminum). *Track is a design by Ben Wirth of benwirth licht www.benwirth.de; Wolfgang Engelhardt of Licht- und Objektberatung www.lichtundobjektberatung.de came up with the vision to use this flexible plug-in system for the church project, and Melsungen's parish council was bold enough to commission this innovative and modern concept.

 

*Track's individual elements can be flexibly connected to meet the requirements of different locations. Mood and amount of light can also be set according to your wishes, by using different amounts of globes, and by directing their light either upward or downward. Each globe has a light output of around 80 lm at a consumption of no more than 1.6 W. The structure in Melsungen has a luminous power of about 4800 lm at approximately 100 W. 90% of the globes project their light downward and illuminate the church's seating area. For decorative purposes, some globes have also been used as uplights; in a fragmented play of light and shadow, they let an enlarged duplicate of the carrier structure appear on the ceiling.

 

Two *Track arrays are suspended from the ceiling of Melsungen's church, each one with 30 globes and overall dimensions of 2.2 m x 2.8 m. The globes have all been positioned at the same height, at a distance of 2 m to the carrier structure. Some of the globes' shining plastic covers are colorless, others are colored blue or red. The emitted light is colorless. Both arrays allow for two different settings (outer ring and inner array), so that different lighting moods can be created.

 

The installation was completed on October 12, 2012. A first statement by the church's priest, Herr Bielefeld: "Not only is this installation absolutely beautiful, it will inspire me in the future and I will integrate it into my sermons."
